Barbershop in Ituzaingó, Argentina, adopts social haircut with reduced price for retirees
Elio's establishment offers the service at a differential cost for seniors and fixed prices on low-demand days. The initiative aims to help the vulnerable public and increase the customer base.
In the city of Ituzaingó, in Argentina, Elio's barbershop implemented a commercial strategy that has generated positive repercussions among local patrons. The establishment, located at 659 Bacacay Street, adopted what they call a social haircut, offering a reduced rate for retirees. This measure serves two main objectives: assisting a vulnerable segment of the population and increasing customer flow in the business.
The initiative was publicized after reports from clients who noticed the difference in billing at the end of their service. Samuel, one of the shop's employees, explained that the standard price for a haircut is 15,000 Argentine pesos, while adding a beard raises the cost to 18,000 pesos. However, for retirees, the total value of the service drops to just 5,000 pesos, representing significant savings.
Valentín, another collaborator at the location, emphasized that on some days, the schedule is full with this specific demographic. The team guarantees that the service is equal and professional, regardless of the client's financial condition. "The important thing is to help people, and most of them come back," stated the 20-year-old. The establishment opened its doors six months ago, and the employees acknowledge that business has been steady.
In addition to the discount for seniors, the barbershop applies another tactic to balance demand throughout the week. On Mondays and Tuesdays, traditionally low-traffic days, the fixed price of a haircut is 10,000 pesos. This flexibility in pricing helps maintain chair occupancy during these specific periods.
Elio's has a second unit at 1722 Almagro Street, near the corner with Monroe, where the same policy of differential prices for retirees is applied. The owners attribute the business's good performance to how they treat their clientele and their willingness to grow. They also use social media to share videos from the barbershop's daily life, strengthening the connection with customers.
