Alcina presents the Bixie Shag technique with cool blonde and an editorial finish
The German brand details this modern cut, which combines mullet and shag-bob elements, along with the luminous blonde coloration created by Robert Mrosek and Susanne Schaller.
In Germany, Alcina has launched a technical guide for creating the Bixie Shag, a style that merges the aesthetic of the mullet with the soft base of a shag-bob. This innovation directly appeals to barbers and salon professionals by presenting a modern and progressive approach, where the natural movement of the hair is preserved and enhanced through strategic layering and razor techniques.
The cut was developed by head of looks Robert Mrosek in collaboration with head of coloration Susanne Schaller. The process begins at the nape, where the base length is defined at mid-ear level. The back is cut horizontally, while the sides are worked diagonally backward, becoming shorter as they advance toward the front.
For the main structure, the hair is sectioned diagonally from the highest point of the head to the perimeter and distributed at 90 degrees. The cutting is done from outside in and upward, creating nearly uniform layers with a slight increase in length on top to ensure smooth movement. The crown area is treated in a trapezoid shape, being shortened and textured with thinning shears.
The connection between the top and the back is refined using vertical sections. The sides are pulled toward the center within the trapezoidal shape, maintaining volume up to the hairline. The transition at the nape is created with a razor or texturizing shears, working from top to bottom and then outward, ensuring a defined finish.
The final customization occurs on the sides above the ears, where panels are cut with a razor approximately 3 to 4 centimeters below the ear. Individual sections receive varied lengths to create intentional highs and lows, resulting in a striking look.
The coloration complements the cut with a bright, clean, and luminous blonde. Starting from a natural level 6 base at the roots and bleached ends at level 10, the technique uses fine foils for precise lightening. The final tone is controlled for a cool and elegant direction, utilizing Alcina's Intensive Toner, resulting in a fresh and editorial blonde that maintains daily wearability.
