In La Paz, Bolivia, President Rodrigo Paz Pereira promulgated Law No. 1781, officially establishing October 21 as the National Day of Hairdresser Artisans, Hairstylists, Barbers, Stylists, and Related Fields in Comprehensive Beauty. The measure is relevant to barbershop professionals because it consolidates state recognition that encompasses not only traditional barbers but also other workers in the aesthetic sector.

The new legislation highlights the historical, economic, social, and cultural contribution of these professionals to the country's development. The legal text frames this recognition within the General Labor Law, valuing the role of the category in Bolivian society.

According to the sole article of the law, the date was chosen to honor the workers' contribution to society. The norm seeks to unify the celebration under a more current and comprehensive legal framework than previous ones.

An important point of the promulgation is the repeal of Supreme Decree No. 4201, dated October 19, 1955. By replacing this century-old legislation, the government updates the legal framing of the profession, ensuring that new dynamics in the beauty market are considered.

The law was promulgated on October 20, 2026, just one day before the commemorative date. This reinforces the immediate intention to apply the new norm and celebrate the first National Day under this specific legislation.

With this change, official recognition now expressly includes hairstylists and stylists alongside barbers and hairdressers. The inclusion of these terms aims to reflect the diversity of functions existing in contemporary barbershops and beauty salons.
