Festival in Jesús María hosts barber duel with prizes across four categories
The Mexican city of Jesús María is hosting a professional competition at the De Chicahual a Calavera Festival, offering cash and product prizes for both beginner and experienced barbers.
In the city of Jesús María, Mexico, the barbering sector is taking center stage within local cultural activities. The Municipal Government, through the Youth Agency (Instancia de la Juventud), organized the Barber Duel as part of the De Chicahual a Calavera 2026 Festival. This initiative aims to recognize the talent, creativity, and technical skills of professionals working in the region, providing an important showcase for those who work with cuts and styles.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 25th, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The chosen venue is the Cielo Claro Sports Unit, where participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills before the audience and judges. The competition is structured into four distinct categories, each designed to evaluate specific competencies within the profession.
The first category is New Barber, exclusively for barbers with a maximum of one year of professional experience. This division allows beginners to compete under fairer conditions, focusing on technical fundamentals without the pressure of complex styles expected from veteran professionals.
For competitors with more extensive backgrounds, there is the Taper con Diseño category, which focuses on tapers accompanied by creative designs. Another modality is Fast Fade, a challenge that tests the speed and precision of cuts—essential skills for those who serve many clients in the daily routine of a barbershop.
The final category is Corte Creativo Día de Muertos (Creative Day of the Dead Cut), inspired by the traditional Mexican celebration of Day of the Dead. Here, professionals must present artistic proposals that dialogue with this date, combining technique and cultural expression. Registration fees vary by modality: 350 pesos for New Barber, 400 pesos for Taper con Diseño and Fast Fade, and 480 pesos for the Creative Cut.
The top three finishers in each category will receive cash prizes and industry products. The maximum prize amount reaches 4,000 pesos. Those interested can request more information and secure their spot through the Youth Agency (Instancia de la Juventud) by calling 449 581 32 47.
