In San Cristóbal, the capital of Venezuela's Táchira state, the beauty sector is facing a significant crisis due to electrical instability. Barbershop and hair salon professionals report that demand for services has dropped sharply by 40% in recent months, directly impacting the sustainability of local businesses.

The main cause of this downturn is the duration of power outages, which frequently extend continuously for five to six hours. Since establishments rely heavily on electrical equipment such as dryers, flat irons, and clippers, the lack of electricity prevents normal operations.

Many locations do not have their own generators, forcing professionals to suspend all activities during blackouts. This total standstill generates frustration for both workers and clients, who often arrive at the salon only to find that there is no power available to complete their services.

The absence of a fixed schedule for rationing worsens the situation, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty. Clients stop booking appointments out of fear they won't be able to finish their service or prefer to seek establishments where the service is currently running at that specific moment.

Although some barbers have tried to mitigate the damage by purchasing rechargeable clippers, this solution has proven insufficient. The batteries in these devices usually run out before the end of prolonged cuts, which exceed the storage capacity of portable tools.

To illustrate the impact on daily life, a local professional described the chaotic routine: "We can't even comb or dry hair. We lose a lot of clients." This total dependence on the electrical grid makes work extremely unpredictable for those who live off in-person service.
