In La Paz, Bolivia, the Chamber of Deputies approved Bill No. 308/2024-2025 during its 202nd ordinary session. The law declares October 21st as National Day of Hairdressers, Stylists, and Barbers, as well as professionals in related fields of holistic beauty in the country.

The decision is relevant to those working in barbershops because it formalizes the historical, economic, social, and cultural recognition of these professionals for national development. The text falls within the scope of Bolivia's General Labor Law, guaranteeing a more solid legal basis for the category.

Chamber President Roberto Castro Salazar announced that the proposal was approved in plenary session. Since the chamber acts as the revising body, the law has been sanctioned and will be sent to the Executive Branch for the necessary constitutional purposes.

It is important to note that the initiative has a declarative and commemorative character. It does not create a special labor, economic, or administrative regime, nor does it generate direct budgetary obligations for the State, focusing solely on the symbolic appreciation of the profession.

The bill uses Supreme Decree No. 4201, dated October 19, 1955, as precedent. At that time, the regulation established the same date as Hairdresser and Stylist Day. The new law seeks to update this recognition to include the various specialties that currently make up the sector.

Furthermore, the proposal provides for the repeal of the old 1955 decree. The objective is to replace the current recognition with a norm of superior legal hierarchy, maintaining the historical date and expanding its scope to all areas of holistic beauty.
