Stacked pixie gets a new life for 2027 with soft layers and volume
RUSH Hair's creative director reveals the reinvention of the stacked pixie cut, which relies on layers to create movement and texture. The technique is ideal for fine hair and rounded faces.
London, UK — The classic pixie cut is undergoing a significant transformation for the 2027 season. According to Andy Heasman, creative director of RUSH Hair, the updated version, known as the "stacked pixie," redefines the style by incorporating layers that soften the traditional look of the cut.
The main characteristic of this new approach is the length gradient: the front section of the hair remains longer, while the sides and nape are clipped at shorter heights. This structure maintains the pixie's signature volume but introduces a lighter, more natural finish thanks to strategic layering.
These layers are fundamental for creating movement and texture, giving the hair a visual "stacked" appearance. The technique also stands out in the back of the head, which differentiates this model from the traditional pixie. For barbers and salon professionals, this detail is crucial for offering a differentiated service to clients seeking modernity without losing practicality.
The cut is especially recommended for clients with fine hair, as the layers create the illusion of greater density and volume. Additionally, the front length helps visually elongate rounded faces, making it a versatile option for various face shapes.
In terms of maintenance, the style is considered low-effort in daily life. The client can finish the hair using only a blow dryer and a wide-tooth comb, allowing the strands to fall into their natural shape with volume on top. However, to maintain the precision of the layers and the cleanliness of the fade, salon visits need to be more frequent.
The technical execution begins by defining the perimeter and lower sections at the nape. Next, the professional must cut the hair at a 45-degree angle, working from the center towards the sides. The use of thinning shears helps remove excess bulk and add texture before the final creation of the layers.
"I think this will be one of our main cuts for 2027," says Andy Heasman. He suggests combining the cut with a short, wavy fringe to highlight the modern, laid-back texture of the look.
